Federal Avenue E Open House Tour: A special event to benefit SAF & Historic Seattle programs

When:  Saturday, July 12 -- 1:00 to 5:00pm
Cost: Register online at $30 per person (Ticket/program required for entering homes.)
Day of Event Registration: Corner of Highland and Federal Avenue E, lawn of Trinity Lutheran Church

Nestled just west of Volunteer Park and east of Tenth Avenue East on Federal Avenue East is one of the city’s most “stylish” streets – in more ways than one.  It is chock full of beautiful houses designed by local architects in every imaginable traditional style popular in America in the first quarter of the 20th century.

Seattle Architecture Foundation and Historic Seattle invite you to stroll along beautifully manicured Federal Avenue East to experience this cornucopia of American residential styles and be privileged to see the interiors of a number of them.

Those who participated in this special event in 2006 will see new homes added to the shortened route as well as a few special repeats for this year’s open house tour.  The houses will open at 1:00 and close promptly at 5:00.  Each person must show the "official" ticket to enter each home.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Memeria and Historic Seattle Make City’s History More Accessible

Memeria, Incorporated, a pioneer of house-call, photo-scanning, brought their equipment and personnel to Historic Seattle and scanned a significant portion of their collection of historic photographs and post cards. The photos include a rich architectural history of Seattle, its various neighborhoods and valuable architecture. The onsite scanning was donated by Memeria to lay the groundwork for a digital collection at Historic Seattle’s newly developed Northwest Resource Center for Preservation on the ground level of its First Hill headquarters, the historic H.H. Dearborn residence.

The newly digitized collection is being categorized and tagged with descriptions for search and accessibility.  A small sample of the scanned images can be viewed online at http://www.historicseattle.org/.

New Cultural Conservation Program

4Culture’s Cultural Conservation Program will focus primarily on stabilizing, restoring and protecting historic structures, cultural landscapes and archaeological sites in imminent danger.  The program will also include King County funding for historical collections.  For more information contact Eric Taylor (eric.taylor@4culture.org, 206-296-8688), or Flo Lentz (flo.lentz@4culture.org, 206-296-8682).   Click here to subscribe to 4Culture’s newsletter.
