Inbetween Event:
Solving Social Issues Through Design
These events are designed for students (ages 11 - 16) who are interested in exploring architecture and design. Students are given a social issue to solve through design. In teams, students work with design professionals to investigate, plan and build a model that represents their solution. Past event topics included natural disasters and homelessness, sustainability & self-sufficiency. In 2012, we will offer 5 InbeTWEEN events: January 27th, March 24th, April 27th, May 25th and August 24th!

January 27th Inbetween Event: Self Sustaining Communities
Coming soon in 2012 Seattle Center will be celebrating The Next Fifty, the 50 year anniversary of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. This workshop will focus on taking Seattle Center into the future. Groups will collaborate to redesign Seattle Center as a self-sustaining community, focusing on aspects of energy and resource waste reduction as well as means to continue growth and support for Seattle Center. As precedent, these young citizens will review the planning and design concepts as well as the self sustaining infrastructure and engineering behind Rwanda Girls Initiative's Gashora Girls Academy. Using the context of Seattle Center and applying concepts from Gashora Girls Academy, groups will build models out of compostables including candies, foods, and recycled materials. Celebrating the past and Designing the future!
